1958 Cadillac Series 62 Deville. General Motors gave the Cadillac franchise a huge change in design in 1958, which was a typical move by GM that year. A nationwide recession was blamed as models were less stylish and an obvious lack of chrome trim compared to other post-war models. 1958 model production was the lowest since 1954 with only 121,778 units being built. To appeal to consumers, Cadillac used fuel economy as a sales pitch and limited the model to a 310 horsepower V8 engine for all models. With a bleak future being predicted, the Deville sedan became a sub-series 62. As pillared sedans were temporarily eliminated, the series 62 received an extended rear deck. Also offered, as standard equipment was cruise control, an automatic station-seeking radio, automatic park brake release, and a high pressure cooling system. As stated previously, all 1958 Cadillac's were equipped with a 365 cubic inch, overhead valve V8 engine with a cast iron block. The 365 cubic inch engine was rated at 310 BHP at 4800 rpm's with a 10.25:1 compression ratio.
