The Chevrolet Camaro is a two-door sports coupe that was built to compete with the Ford Mustang in the late 1960's. On September 29, 1966 the first 1967 Chevy Camaro's went on sale. Built on the F-Body platform, the Camaro shared many parts with the Pontiac Firebird, which also debuted in 1967. Four generations of Camaro existed - Generation one from 1967 to 1969, Generation two from 1970-1981, Generation three from 1982-1992, and Generation four from 1993-2002. General Motors ceased production of the Chevy Camaro and the Pontiac Firebird after the 2002 model year due to slow sales and a deteriorating sports coupe market. The F-Body platforms were in continuous production for 35 straight years. General Motors is set to introduce the fifth generation of the Chevy Camaro in the spring of 2009, but the Camaro will be a 2010 model. The 2010 Chevy Camaro is set to compete yet again with the Ford Mustang and the new Dodge Challenger.
